Recent Scams In Use
At Altura Credit Union Ltd., the safety and security of our members is always our top priority.
We have recently been made aware of several scams in use at present.
Phone Call Scam - Insurance Sales
Scam phone calls targeting members of the public, where callers falsely claim to represent your Credit Union and attempt to sell insurance products over the phone.
We want to reassure all members that Altura Credit Union does not make unsolicited sales calls to sell insurance or any other products.
While we do offer insurance services and products to our members, these are only discussed when a member contacts us directly or requests information from us.
What To Do If You Receive One Of These Calls
If you receive an unexpected call claiming to be from Altura Credit Union:
- Do not provide any personal or financial information
- Do not share account details, PINs, passwords, or verification codes
- Hang up immediately if you feel unsure or uncomfortable
- Contact us directly using our official phone number to verify the call
If in doubt, always contact us directly on 0818 345 925.
Text Message - Unusual Activity On Your Account
We are aware that some members are currently receiving fraudulent text messages relating to “unusual activity” on their accounts.
These messages are not being sent by Altura Credit Union.
Unfortunately, fraudsters attempt to exploit many situations. They may well have noticed on this website and on our social media that there are changes ongoing (moving from mastercard to visa) and the recent technical issue with shadow transactions on accounts. We are reminding all members to remain vigilant and to treat any unexpected text messages or phone calls requesting account information with caution.
Please remember:
- Altura Credit Union will never ask for PINs, passwords, one-time passcodes or full security details by text message or phone call.
- Members should never click on links contained within unexpected or suspicious text messages.
- Suspicious messages should be deleted immediately.
- If in doubt, contact the credit union directly using official contact details.
Stay Alert: Stop, Think, Check
Fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated in how they target individuals and trusted organisations. We encourage all members to remain vigilant and to treat unexpected calls with caution.
Remember:
- Stop – Take a moment before responding
- Think – Does the request seem genuine?
- Check – Contact us directly using trusted contact details
We would also encourage members to share this warning with family, friends, and vulnerable relatives who may be more at risk from scam activity.
