Stay Safe While Spending: Debit Card Safety Tips for Summer Travel
Whether you're heading off for a sunny beach holiday or a weekend city break, it's important to make sure your debit card is just as ready for travel as your suitcase. At Altura Credit Union, we're here to help you keep your money safe while you're away from home.
Here are some simple but essential tips to protect your debit card when travelling this summer:
🔔 1. Let Us Know You're Travelling
Before you jet off, notify your Credit Union of your travel dates and destinations. This helps us recognise your spending abroad and avoid unnecessary blocks due to suspicious activity. A quick heads-up can save you a lot of hassle later on.
📲 2. Enable Transaction Alerts
Activate transaction alerts through your CU mobile app. These real-time notifications let you keep an eye on your account activity, no matter where in the world you are.
📶 3. Avoid Public Wi-Fi for Banking
Public Wi-Fi might be convenient, but it’s not always secure. Avoid logging into your online banking or entering card details over unsecured networks – especially in airports, cafés, and hotels.
🚨 4. Report Lost or Stolen Cards Immediately
If your debit card is lost or stolen while travelling, contact Card Services immediately at +353 1 6933 333. Alternatively, you can use your CU mobile app to freeze your card instantly. The sooner you act, the safer your account will be.
💳 5. Carry a Backup Payment Method
Things don’t always go to plan – so it’s wise to carry a second card or some local currency just in case your main debit card is lost, stolen, or blocked.
📞 6. Save the Card Services Number Before You Go
Add the Card Services contact number to your phone before you leave: +353 1 6933 333. Having it handy can make all the difference in an emergency.
Enjoy a stress-free summer and travel with confidence. Your safety is our priority!
