Storm Damage To Gorey Building
On Thursday, 12th March, due to high winds and an incident involving a solar panel becoming dislodged from the roof, we made the decision to temporarily, close our Gorey buildings for a couple of hours. This allowed us to carry out a full assessment of the situation, ensure the building was safe and secure, and prevent any further damage. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
The health, safety, and wellbeing of our Members, staff, and the public is always our first priority. The closure of the buildings — and the temporary closure of McDermott Street to traffic — was deemed the safest course of action while assessments were undertaken.
As part of our safety protocol, and out of an abundance of caution, we requested assistance from Wexford County Council. The Council temporarily closed McDermott Street while structural inspections were completed, ensuring the safety of everyone in the vicinity.
We apologise to any Members who were impacted by the closure. Our other nine branches remained open throughout the day, and all online and telephone services continued to operate as normal.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our Members, staff, Wexford County Council, our neighbours on McDermott Street, and all those who assisted us. Thanks to everyone’s cooperation, the situation was managed quickly and efficiently, allowing assessments to be completed without delay.
Barry Monaghan, CEO:
"I want to thank our Members, our staff, Wexford County Council, and everyone who assisted today. The swift and coordinated response ensured the situation was managed quickly and efficiently, and we are grateful for the cooperation shown by all involved. The safety and wellbeing of our community will always guide our decisions, and we are pleased that no one was injured during this incident."
